Buckner Field Trip

The first graders had been collecting new shoes and socks to donate to Buckner International. We went to their facility to learn how the organization is helping children worldwide receive new shoes. The kids helped prepare the shoes by lacing them, putting a rubber band around them and writing a note to the recipient of the new shoes.  The kids had a great time working hard so that children could receive some much-needed shoes.

The kids got to experience what it would feel like if they were one of the many children who have to walk to school without shoes. They experienced three types of grounds that are found around the world. It did not feel good!

1st Grade Field Trip

The 1st graders did a unit called "It's Better to Give." Part of their unit was to bring a new pair of shoes to donate.

After all the shoes were collected, they headed to Buckner International. Their Shoes for the Orphan Souls program provides new shoes and socks to orphans and vulnerable children in the United States and throughout the world. At the warehouse, the students learned about how children around the world have to walk long distances without shoes and how important shoes are -- something most of us take for granted.

Afterwards, the kids helped process some donated shoes by inserting laces, bundling them together and writing notes to the child that would receive the pair of shoes.

The trip was a great way to finish off their unit. It was a fun learning experience and the kids were able to be a small part in making a difference!

A candy cane treat for everyone

Afterwards, we headed to Chuck E. Cheese for lunch and games.

Makena's First Kindergarten Field Trip

Makena went on her first field trip to Green Meadows Farm.

Makena, her friend Gracie and I walked around and checked out all the animals.

We got to see Makena's favorite animal!

We watched a pig race.

We spent the most time feeding goats.

I loved how she wanted to feed the ones in the back who weren't aggressive and therefore not getting any food.

After awhile, we headed back to our picnic area for lunch. We took a quick picture on the bridge with her sweet friends.

We had lunch by the water and then afterwards threw rocks in the water and played on the playground.

I loved spending time with my sweet girl!

After our lunch break, it was back to the farm for a hayride.

Makena milked a cow!

We all got to pick a pumpkin before we left.

Such a fun day!

Makena's Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Makena had her first school field trip to the pumpkin patch. Her field trip was on the same day as Karis' field trip, so Derek spent the morning with Makena and her friends.

Makena rode with her teacher that morning to the pumpkin patch.

At the pumpkin patch, they had a story time and learned about pumpkins.

They went on a scavenger hunt for treasures.

Makena has become quite silly these days!

Sweet friends!

First Kindergarten Field Trip to the Farm

The first Kindergarten field trip was to Green Meadows Farm and Pumpkin Patch in Grand Prairie, TX. The students are starting a unit on farms, learning about what a farm is and how it helps people. Green Meadows was the perfect place to look at and interact with lots of different farm animals.

Karis milked her first cow.

All the animals were sweet and friendly.

A little too friendly for Karis' liking

We watched a pig race and saw lots of baby pigs.

Fun with a scarecrow.

I just had Karis and another girl in my group. We walked around with her other friends, but also spent some time with just our group. It was a fun day spending time together.

We had lunch by the lake and afterwards the kids played on the playground and collected seashells.

We then checked out some baby animals. There were chicks, ducklings, guinea pigs and bunnies. After a few tries, Karis got the hang of picking up the little chicks and was so excited she could do it herself!

To finish up our time there, we went on a hayride and then picked out our own pumpkins. It was then time to head back to school to finish off the day!
